Is my baby getting enough milk? 5 signs to look for

It is the most common worry in early motherhood, and it rarely means something is wrong. Milk supply is built on demand — and most babies signal clearly when things are on track.

The reassuring signs

Steady weight gain after the first week, 6 or more wet nappies a day after day five, audible swallowing during feeds, and a baby who seems settled after most feeds — these matter far more than how full your breasts feel.

When to seek support

Persistent pain, a baby who slips off the breast repeatedly, fewer wet nappies, or weight loss beyond the expected early dip are all good reasons to book a lactation assessment — early support changes everything.
